If
you’re feeling a little worn out after your matches so far in this
tournament – get over it. 76 year-old Tippy Guerin has been playing for 50
years now and is still going strong. She’s been the number two singles
player all season for the Roswell Park 3.5 women’s team. And she still
works full time as a teacher, and visits with her nine grandchildren
whenever she can.
Tippy started playing tennis with friends when she was 14 in her hometown of
Millbrook, New York. She took some time off to get married and to see her
five boys through diapers and the terrible two’s. She wasn’t off the court
for long though. Tippy has lived and played tennis all over the United
States and says she has many friends throughout the country because of the
sport. She hopes to still be going strong at 85, and beyond. Tippy said,
“Tennis has been so good to me. I just can’t imagine a day not playing.”
Watch
out ladies - I’ve seen Tippy play. At number two singles she’s tough, and I
sure wouldn’t want to see her across the net from me in a doubles match!
