Bananas are everywhere at the State League Championships. So just how many
bananas does it take to feed 1,000-plus players at the Augusta State League
Championships? Well, each of the seven sites goes through about 40 pounds
of bananas during the four-day tournament. For those of you keeping score
at home, that’s a total of 800 pounds of bananas – a little more than
one-third of a ton!
Why are they such a
great, quick and easy snack of choice for athletes? Well, each banana has
about 110 calories; zero grams of fat and cholesterol; 400mg of potassium
and four grams of fiber. And there’s no need to wash your hands first, as
this tasty treat comes right in its own easy-to-open wrapper. Great during
a changeover!
The next time you hear
someone behind you at your tournament site yelling, “Out of the way – I’ve
got a ton of bananas here!” you might want to heed that warning. Turns out
the guy carrying all those bananas isn’t exaggerating – that much.
