Augusta Fun Facts
by Robin Dawson

Georgia’s state capital - Augusta.  That’s right!  Atlanta is a young city compared to Augusta, and for a period of about 10 years back in the late 18th century Augusta was Georgia’s state capital.  Augusta is Georgia’s second oldest city, and is also the second most populated city in the state.

Though Augusta is well known as the home of Augusta National and the Masters Golf Tournament held the first week in April, tennis players, adults and juniors alike, are coming to know it as an excellent host city for all kinds of tournaments.

And did you know…Augusta, well, Martinez actually - but it’s close enough, is home to Petersburg Racquet Club where Owner and Director of Tennis Craig Jones and Head Pro Vu Nguyen are leading the way in the nation when it comes to teaching the sport of tennis to kids?  QuickStart Tennis it’s called, and it’s real tennis scaled to size for kids.  The USTA just launched this national format for teaching in the spring of 2008.  If you haven’t heard of QuickStart Tennis start asking.  The foam and low compression balls they use aren’t just for kids.  If you’re having trouble getting your backhand volley just the way you want it you might want to give QuickStart a try.  It might be just the answer you and your doubles partner are looking for.
