Rule of the Day
by Robin Dawson

Racquets were-a-flyin’ on some courts here at the State Championships Friday.  And not because anyone was angry or tossing them around.  One gentleman who shall remain nameless (you know who you are) was actually hit in the forehead and slightly injured by his own racquet!  It seems a few folks might want try out the latest in grip tape.  Until then…What happens if my racquet or my doubles partner’s racquet slips to the ground (or worse) during play?  Do we stop and play a let?

Here’s the call:  As long as the racquet does indeed slip, and is not deliberately thrown in a fit of anger, it is not sufficient reason to call a let.  Since this happens frequently enough during tennis matches, play merely continues without interruption.

Hang on tight, and be safe out there everyone.
