Karen French’s
Snellville 3.5 team, Montclair, at the USTA Atlanta local playoffs,
won the Spirit Award at the playoffs . . . and their levels at the
local playoffs, which is why they’re at the League Tennis State
Championships this weekend. |
|
This team goes all out when it come to party
planning, especially when tennis is involved. Even their family
members got involved. |

Karen French is caption of the Snellville 3.5 USTA Atlanta team Monclair.
The team grew out of nearby subdivision, Karen says, and grew to include
friends from outside the neighborhood, but “only if they were either a)
really good players, b) brought really good food, or c) fit our collective
festive personalities. No duds need apply!”
They love socializing together, teammate Shawn Toney adds, even outside of
tennis events and get together for dinner, drinks, Mexican-themed dinner
parties, holiday parties, gold parties, spa parties, home-based-business
parties, Southern Living parties. The operative word here is “parties,”
any excuse for a party for these ladies. Yet they’ve helped each others
(or a spouse) find employment, have a nice family support system, Shawn
says, and just love each other’s company.
They have one USTA program director for Atlanta’s Weekday Women on the team,
one who squeezes tennis in between her jaunts around the world for the CDC,
and several players who’ve increased their speed and agility on the court by
losing a collective 123 pounds doing Weight Watchers.
The team also won the Spirit Award at the USTA Atlanta local championships
with their Mardi Gras decorations and food. Read all about the
Atlanta local playoffs Spirit Award. After all, they’ve had a lot of
experience planning parties together . . .
