An Atlanta team
has an interesting traveling companion at the Macon League Tennis
Championships. Windemere-Farnen, a 4.0 Low team, has a good luck
charm perched at every match.
“It all started
when team member Ivonne Schlacter changed her hair style and color,”
said teammate Monique Antonio. “Another teammate noticed the change
and mentioned that Ivonne now looked just like her childhood doll,
which she still had.” Now the “Ivonne Doll” makes every trip with
them, including to the state championships, and stands patiently at
the fence for every one of Ivonne’s (the person) matches.
Captain Tracy
Farnen decided Ivonne (the doll) needed a boyfriend to accompany her
on her Macon trip and scrounged up a Superman (of course) from her
young son’s toy collection. The two are traveling together this
weekend.
“Ivonne (the
doll) is traveling now so she has her little traveling bag,” Monique
noted, “and she has her swim suit on underneath her cute cover-up
because, after all, she IS on vacation.” She even brought her
evening gown because, well, a girl just never knows when she might
need formal wear.
The Windermere
team had a bye Friday morning, but then took four in their second
round on Friday afternoon. They were playing their third round match
at John Drew Smith Saturday afternoon, with Ivonne (the doll) right
there netside.
Ivonne and
Superman (and the rest of the Windermere team and entourage) have
plans later this evening to enjoy the Macon nightlife. That evening
gown might just come in handy . . .
