Each season, the Women’s
4.0 team out of Cherokee County selects their new captain by using a system
similar to the naming of hurricanes – alphabetically going down the roster
to select the next captain. Cheryl Bischof was supposed to be the captain
before the last season, but an injury kept her on the sidelines. Cindy
Bocinsky took her place, and now her team has made it to Macon!
The team is composed of
close friends living in the same neighborhood. Some of them even work
together. They socialize with each other, and the team travels to Hilton
Head every fall for tennis, beach, laughter, and fellowship.
In addition to the good
times, they are there for each other in time of need. Cindy Carona
described her team as a “family.” Cindy recently lost her mother and a
brother, and she said “I could not have made it through this time without my
teammates. They were there for me through it all.”
The team is now calling
themselves the “Cinderella Sistas” because they barely made it to the
Atlanta playoffs since they finished third in their division. They beat all
the odds as they defeated the first, second, and third seeds to make it to
the state championships.
The team has struggled in
their matches in Macon, but with their can-do attitude and determination,
they will surely return again to improve upon their record. In the
meantime, they will continue to enjoy each other on and off the court.
