A Most Unusual Young Man
Many tennis players often
participate in other sports – golf, running, bowling, etc. There are
probably not many who participate in triathlons, Iron Man competitions, and
especially in Extreme Sports. Yes, Jason Glow enters a cage and fights
another man using the techniques of kickboxing, boxing, wrestling, and
martial arts. We’ll get to that part of the story later, but let’s talk
about Jason’s tennis.
Jason’s parents introduced
him to tennis at the age of five. He played in the junior USTA tournaments
in Georgia, and even competed in some at the southern and national levels.
He also played USTA Jr. Team Tennis while in high school. It was only
natural that he would find his way into USTA League Tennis. He found Andy
Duffy’s 4.0 team, or maybe it was the other way around. They needed a
singles player, and Jason was a great candidate. He describes his tennis
game as a combination of patience and aggression. He never tires in a
match, and he knows when it’s the right time to put his opponent away.
Running a couple of miles
a day is too much for most people, but imagine running a triathlon! While
he’s playing tennis this weekend, next week Jason will participate in a Half
Iron Man competition. That’s a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride, and a 13
½ mile run. Soon he will be competing in an Off-road Iron Man that includes
swimming in a lake, mountain trail biking, and running on a mountain trail.
Jason discovered boxing in
his backyard when several of his friends would come over on Saturday
afternoon. Several of them continued and now follow the Extreme Sports
circuit. Jason trains at Rush MMA, a gym located in Macon, where he works
on his skills for his fights.
You must be thinking Jason
is very unusual, but wait, there’s more. He just completed his second year
of medical school at Mercer University. He will begin hospital duty in
LaGrange in two weeks and then on to the Medical Center of Central Georgia
in August. What’s more, he even has time to publish articles in various
medical journals.
