Nobody does it better
by Jenna Wright
Kim Leatherwood has been an outstanding volunteer for
the Coosa Valley Tennis Association for the past two years. She has taken on
many leadership roles in all different areas of tennis, as well as put in a
countless amount of hours into the USTA Georgia State Championships.
Believe it or not, Kim started working on this event in November of 2007. As
tournament chairperson, Kim is responsible for making sure that the
tournament is run properly throughout the weekend. She must select qualified
volunteers to be in charge of all seven sites. In addition to coordinating
voluntary staff members, she must also see that every facility is properly
equipped before match play begins. The biggest challenge she faces as
tournament chairperson is the fear of things going wrong. Although she
wouldn’t change anything about how the tournament is run, she has been able
to identify ways to improve next year’s State Championships, which she is
already planning to be part of.
Although Kim dedicates a large amount of her time to
volunteering for Coosa Valley Tennis Association, she is able to fit her own
playing time into her schedule. Her very first match was played at the
Rome-Floyd Tennis Center in December of 2004. Kim has now advanced to the
3.5 level and will be attending the State League Championships in Augusta
next weekend with her own team. As much as she loves being involved in
running tournaments and taking on the role of treasurer of the Coosa Valley
Tennis Association, Kim will enjoy a small break from work and actually
being able to be on court next weekend.
Kim Leatherwood currently lives in Calhoun with her
husband Jeff and she works at Coosa Valley Technical College.
From the players to the tournament staff, many thanks go to Kim Leatherwood
for promoting the game of tennis. Nobody does it better! |
